Enjoy the little things

"The world is so full of a wonder of things, I'm sure we should all be happy as kings."

Robert Louis Stevenson

Stuck?? Let go. Light a candle. Play some music. Relax and enjoy breakfast. Stare at the clouds. Stop pushing. You need to let go if you want to find fresh inspiration and energy for your journey.

Break up the monotony of your routine by walking a different route. Wear different clothes. Have an artist's date. Julia Cameron in the Artists Way suggests that once a week you should do something you want for no special reason, other than you just want to do it, you are simply curious or it just feels good. This stimulates your creativity and breaks a slump.

How much time do you spend in negative thoughts? Gloom, fear, worry, depression, anger, frustration, angst??? Pay attention. What are you thinking? Obsessing is not problem solving. Where thoughts go energy flows. Pay attention.

Have you ever noticed that when you start your day on the wrong foot, things just keep heading in that direction? Regroup. Take a deep breath. Focus on something positive. Delight in something simple, like the new shirt that you love, the beautiful blue sky, the puffy white clouds, the flowers blooming, the luxurious comfort of your car seat. Where thoughts go energy flows.

The quote above by Robert Louis Stevenson is so simple it almost seems silly, but there is a giant truth in it. We can train ourselves to keep our focus on the simple, the beautiful, the pleasant, the fulfilling while we deal with life's challenges; but much of the programming of modern living wrests us from that peace and beauty into stress, worry, angst and anger.

Step back. Observe the mainstream news media, pharmaceutical ads, legal firm ads, insurance companies ads and so forth. We are constantly programmed with stress. Life IS stressful, but we don't have to live in that feeling. We can train ourselves to push stress away and focus on the little things that give us pleasure.

Have a to do list and put it aside while you go about your day enjoying and feeling the wonderful rhythms of life as you accomplish your tasks. Issues will pop up. Determine to be still and move through them with focus and ease. Breathe. Ask for help if you need it. Be like Indiana Jones or James Bond. Be still. Be focused. Follow through.

The technology which is supposed to make our lives easier, too often pries us from those things which give us pleasure. We get ensnared by the problems, issues and complications of these systems.

Streamline everything you can. Decide what technology makes your life easier and more pleasurable. Eliminate the rest. Everyone is different, so finding your true path through this maze is individual. Streamline all the areas of your life. Eliminate items which are not joyful or practical, but if you love it, keep it!

We live in an age of abundance, but too often this abundance becomes greed and hoarding. We miss the little things which bring true pleasure. It is challenging to keep life simple, but when we do, everything is easier and more pleasurable. Begin streamlining now and remember to enjoy the little things.
