"Be careful how you use your pauses." Ellen Tadd
Are you stuck? Do things seem delayed. Are you having trouble solving your problem?? You could get frustrated, waste time or use the pause beneficially.
Take a walk. Go shopping. Bake bread. Meditate.
Even if you are in the midst of important projects and must do activities, sometimes a break is the most important thing you can do. Pauses can be very productive!! From decorating a room to creating a new business plan, when a project gets bogged down, you need to do something that will activate your right brain...the creative, problem solving side.
One high powered executive said that when she was baffled by a problem, she would close up her desk, take off and go shopping. By letting go of the struggle and doing something enjoyable, the pressure would ease up and her problem would be solved. Business executives often call that standstill which occurs in decision making as "analysis paralysis."
Rides in the country, walks in the woods and staring out the window can accomplish the same effect. Whether it's what to wear to the wedding or how to increase profits; putting a problem aside, often solves it! That's how the mind works. Sometimes when you are thinking too hard you block the solution.
Take a break. Enjoy yourself. Move outside the problem. Step outside the box.
Life is about timing. Watch a surfer catch a wave. Life has waves of energy. Have you ever noticed that you are most effective when you are in sync with life's timing. If you are not getting answers today... If you don't have the ambition to tackle that design project... If you have lost steam on your diet... Ask yourself if a break is actually the most productive thing you can do?
Set the project aside for a bit. Go to a movie. Wander around a museum. Do something pleasurable. It may produce the solution you are seeking. Get away from the problem for an hour, a day or a bit more. A delay, doesn't necessarily mean you are off track.
One summer I needed to find a rental home. I had no motivation to take action. Appointments were difficult to schedule. I had no intuitions about what to do. I put the word out to friends and realtors, but nothing was popping. I felt as if I were in still waters. Then, after a short delay, a beautiful property opened up out of the blue...conditions had changed for several people all at once and we were in the right place at the right time to secure a fabulous deal. It was as if the Universe knew that something beneficial was about to happen which would solve our problem, even if those events were not yet visible. Because we worked with the flow, with timing, an ideal situation manifested.
Learn how to flow with the slow times, to use your pauses well. It may be time to dream, daydream or delay your project. Dreaming is part of success. One study discovered that the only common trait of the brightest students was that they all spent short periods of time just staring out the window!!!! Resting the logical, critical, left half of the brain is important to overall success.
Sometimes you need to push through blocks in progress. Sometimes you need to let go. Go shopping. Let your mind wander. Stop pushing. Surf the invisible waves of life and solutions will likely appear.
Imagination is more important than knowledge!
